Profile: De Meza + Architecture + Interiors

De Meza + Architecture + Interiors has been selected to be a participating design firm in this year’s San Francisco Decorator Showcase.  “This will be our first Showcase and we couldn’t be more excited.  We are looking forward to illustrating what DMA has to offer,” said Gregg De Meza, the studio’s Principal.  Architect De Meza, along with Interior Design team Jennifer Gustafson and Michelle Nelson, will unveil their second-floor bathroom design, “Modernism Talks Back”, when the Showcase opens to the public in May.

Taking the elements of the traditional bathroom as their spring board, the De Meza team will transform this space into a design that asserts that modern interiors can live beautifully within a conventional backdrop.  Their approach pays homage to the work-a-day bathroom, while adding life, modern sophistication and whimsy.  The familiar black and white tile clad bathroom was re-envisioned utilizing a custom mosaic tile, an updated color palette and state of the art light fixtures. Traditional plumbing fixtures are replaced with stripped down versions of their ancestors, but will feel right at home in their new environment.  The original dressing area closets will be given a face lift with new finish and hardware, and the new custom vanity, while modern in concept, incorporates the grid detail found in the original casework.
This year’s featured home, a 1929 revival designed by architect Albert Farr, is located at 3450 Washington Street. This Norman manor masked behind a neoclassical façade will be transformed from top to bottom to highlight the work of San Francisco’s best designers.  The 2010 San Francisco Decorator Showcase will run from Saturday, May 1 through Memorial Day.  Proceeds will benefit the Financial Aid Program of the San Francisco University High School.
