New LEED-Certified Office

Matarozzi Pelsinger Builders continually explores new technologies and draws on innovative resources to expand our sustainable building practices. Our new office in SoMa is on track to qualify for LEED Gold Certification. Features of the building include:

  • 30kw solar photovoltaic power system is installed on the roof providing 70% of the projected energy load for the building
  • An extensive 1,200 square foot green roof utilizing native drought resistant plantings to control and filter roof runoff, reduce heat island effect, and improve the aesthetic of the city roof-scape.
  • Roof is a white product which reduces cooling needs for the building (which now does not require air conditioning) while also reducing the heat island effect in the city making it more comfortable for everyone
  • Lighting is designed to automatically adjust in order to take advantage of natural light, thus reducing energy use and is also designed to reduce light pollution off site
  • Native vegetation is used on site eliminating the need for an irrigation system or the use of potable water to maintain the planting
  • Over 80% of all construction debris is recycled or reused, diverting tons of material from landfills and providing material stock in the supply chain for recycled products
  • Secure bike storage and shower rooms are provided for employees to accommodate bike commuting thereby reducing cars on the road and noise and environmental pollution
  • MPB uses a fleet of alternative fuel (CNG & Biodiesel) vehicles which will have priority parking at the building
  • Over half of all the wood used in the building was either recycled from the existing structure or was sourced from FSC certified forests (Forest Stewardship Council certifies lumber forested in a sustainably manner)
  • All paints, coatings, adhesives and sealers used in the building are low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) meeting the highest standard for indoor air quality which reduces indoor pollution and helps to improve the health and productivity of occupants
  • Building site utilizes permeable surfaces and vegetation to allow percolation of water back into the site, thus reducing runoff and aiding in the breakdown of pollutants through natural systems

We are in the finishing stages of the building and anticipate moving in mid August.

Matarozzi Pelsinger Builders' "new" 3-story warehouse in SoMa was built around 1904. The last occupants had vacated the building in 2005.

New front elevation with zinc siding retains building's historic character.

Installation of a 1,200 sf green roof with native drought resistant plantings.

Office space complete and ready for cubicle install. Bamboo floors, a rapidly renewable product, installed throughout the office space.
